Home Tour: Fairview Arts + Crafts

When our long-time clients approached us about designing their newly purchased historic Arts & Crafts residence in the West Hills of Portland, we knew the project would be a special opportunity to work with a canvas that, rather than being blank, was already rich with architectural detail and character.

Though the project’s scope meant completely furnishing most of the home, we took special care to ensure that every aspect felt coordinated, but never felt like a set.

Honoring the 1936-home's history, while creating a space where this family could comfortably live and entertain was our highest priority. As such, in addition to décor, our clients asked us to design and manage a complete remodel to the master en-suite and make updates to the kitchen.

The result, is living spaces with eclectic furnishings, art and accessories that seem more like they’ve been collected over perhaps decades, rather that sourced and coordinated during the relatively brief design and execution period. The home feels instantly warm, welcoming, and unpretentious.

A curved staircase and petite entry table made in California accent the entry hall. Benjamin Moore China White was selected the give the main floor a warm, airy feel.

The large living room features a neutral palette and ample seating for entertaining and the client's family gatherings. The metal and glass chandelier gives the central seating area a sense of space without demanding too much visual weight. Original art, and a custom metal firewood holder from LR Design Lab complete the design.

The bright family room's deep, custom sectional is a favorite spot for the family to gather with their young children. Warm, neutral tones continue with small pops of blue and purple through accent pillows.

The updated master ensuite combines period-style custom cabinetry and tile paired with an updated palette and appointments to meet the demands of a more modern lifestyle.

We love the warmth and character of this home. The eclectic style, balanced across it's classic architectural and updated decor create a space that feels updated yet timeless.
