Our Interior Design Process

Our full-service design process has been carefully considered to give you a completely personalized experience and a outcome that is better than imagined.

Step 1 // Consultation

Our in-home consultations are designed as information-gathering sessions where we discuss the scope of your project. We ask about your lifestyle, design preferences, and other needs associated with your space. We also outline our process and answer any questions you may have.

After this meeting, many clients are ready to begin the process by signing our interior design agreement and paying our initial design fee, however you are welcome to review the contract and pay the design fee at your convenience.

Step 2 // Project Overview + Scope

Once you've become a client by signing our standard contract and paying our design fee, we’ll follow-up via email with an outline of the scope of your project based on our understanding from your consultation. We may also ask some additional questions to help us best prepare our initial design plan.

Step 3 // Inspiration + Materials Palette

At the core of every design project is the materials palette. It’s the master design plan for your space which helps to ensure consistency and harmony across all layers of the project. We create a completely custom design profile and master plan for you, with a combination of inspiration photos and colors, materials, patterns and textures. We’ll present and discuss these selections with you, asking questions and seeking feedback to hone the inspiration into an actionable plan.

Step 4 // Base Design

Once we’ve established our design approach and materials palette, we’ll begin with the base or foundation of the design plan. This phase typically involves paint and wallpaper, flooring or area rugs, and larger, or more important pieces of furniture or built-ins. Depending on the client and project, this phase may include other details such as space or lighting plans and contractor meetings.

Step 5 // Layering

In the next phase of the project we weave in additional layers to the design to bring your space to life. Layering completes the plan and gives you the professional, ‘designer’ look with additional furniture, greenery, lighting, pillows, finishes, accessories, and art.

Step 6 // Final Touches + Ordering

Weaving together all the layers creates a final vision for your space. While ordering often takes place at multiple points during the process, some clients prefer to wait until the end. We select items for your home from a wide range of sources chosen based on your style and budget, many of which are only available to the trade. We also work with a large network of professionals for remodels and installation. Before anything is ordered, or any remodel work commences, you will be provided with an estimate, or invoice, that outlines everything for your approval. Once you have approved of the items and paid the invoice, will we begin ordering.

In most cases, the time after ordering provides a period of quiet excitement. After a number of weeks or months of regular design meetings and contact with our team, we’ll decrease our communication with you as we await the arrival of various items. Make no mistake though, on the back end, our team is busy tracking orders, receiving and categorizing items, and planning for the final install. As questions arise, our team will touch base with you, and of course you are always welcome to contact us, but expect to hear less from us during this time of preparation.

Step 7 // Delivery + Install

The final, and most exciting step is the install. With a flurry of commotion, our team, paired with movers and installers will execute the design plan.

As a general policy, we recommend delivering all furniture and completing the space design all at once. We also wait to move furniture into a space when all contractor work has been completed. While waiting for install day can require patience, the pay-off is incredible, as your space transforms into what most clients describe as something better than they had imagined.
